Join Dave Bigler as we study the amazing Gospel of Jesus Christ according to the disciple Matthew. This is Dave's first through the bible, expository teaching. This started it all.
Dave intros the video with an explanation of who he is and why he is doing the study. He then goes into a quick explanation of the old testament and its foundation for the new testament. Followed by a brief explanation of who the apostle Matthew is as the book's author and why Matthew is writing the book. After the intros, Dave digs into the genealogy found in Mat 1;1-17 pulling out why Matthew chooses to start his gospel this way.
In this week's study Dave starts in Mat. 01;18 talking about Joseph and Mary and their wedding plans but through the process of the study he jumps all over the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. All references are below:
In this weeks study we look at just 12 verses: Mathew chapter 2:01-12, looking at what it means to seek Jesus.
In this weeks study of Matthew chapter 2 we hit on the Magi and their gifts as well as Jesus and his young family as they follow God's instructions to travel down to Egypt. We further look at God talking with people throughout the Bible including Moses (through the burning bush) and Jesus talking to the apostle Paul (Saul at that time). The main point of this week's study is looking at the ways that God speaks to us today.
In this week's study of Matthew chapter 3 Dave hits the following: John the Baptist's Past, John the Baptist's Message, Why does John slam the Pharisees, What is Baptism, Why does Jesus get Baptized, and Should you be Baptized?
This week's study looks at satan, temptation, and how we can overcome both! The talk does get a bit emotional and intense at moments but Lexi (one of Dave's Bernese Mountain Dogs) makes a few cameos to lighten things up.
In this weeks study we look at three sections: Matt. 04;12-17 - "A Great Light in Capernaum" - where is Capernaum and why is it significant? Matt. 04;18-22 - "The Odd Squad" - Who are the first disciples and why does God pick them? Matt. 04;23-25 - "Lets do this!" - Jesus starts his ministry!
In this study Dave looks at Matthew Chapter 5 verses 01 - 16, looking at the first portion of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. Dave starts with breaking down each of the Beatitudes then concludes with our call to be Salt and Light.
In this week's study, Dave continues going through the Sermon on the Mount, looking at Jesus' claim to be the fulfillment of The Law and The Prophets and what that means. In addition, Dave talks about: - Murder - Adultery - Pornography - Alcoholism - Divorce - Oaths - An eye for an Eye "Lax Talionis" - Love for Enemies - and ultimately how Jesus raises the bar on everything.
In this week's Bible Study, Dave goes through the first half of Matthew chapter 6. Continuing in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, we look at what Jesus has to say about Giving, Praying, and Fasting.
In this week's study, Dave looks at what Jesus says to the believer about the love of money/wealth/possession and how it causes us far more worry than its worth.
In this weeks video we finish up the sermon on the mount, looking at Matthew Chapter 7 in which Jesus talks about: - Passing Judgment on Others - Asking God for things - The Path to God/Heaven - False Prophets - False Disciples - Building a Solid Foundation
In this week's study, we look at Jesus healing a leaper, a servent, and a mother-in-law. We conclude by looking at a man that wanted to follow Jesus but was unwilling to get his priorities in order, putting Jesus first in his life.
In this week's Bible study we look at STORMS & DEMONS! We read Matthew 08;23-27 which looks at how the apostles handle a storm and then we read Matthew 08;28-34 in which Jesus encounters two demon-possessed men.
This week we unpack Matthew Chapter 9 in which we see Jesus heal people of "faith."
In this week's study, we see Jesus send out the 12 Apostles.
In this week's bible study we go through Matthew Chapter 11, looking at John the Baptist, who questioned why Jesus, as the Messiah, did not bring the "judgment & wrath" that John expected. We also look at how Jesus brought rest to the believer of the day as well as to us today.
In this week's Bible Study we look at Matthew chapter 12 and Jesus' harsh words for the Pharisees, (a religious group that thought they were "right with God" because of all the rules they followed). Specifically, we see Jesus point out that it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks. We can learn a great deal from Jesus' strong words for the Pharisees of that day when applying them to our lives today.
In today's study, we look at Matthew 13 in which Jesus explains the Kingdom of Heaven through 8 different parables.
In this week's study, Dave looks at the last portion of Matthew 13 then all of Matthew 14 where we see the death of John the Baptist, as well as Jesus, perform two miracles, the feeding of the 5,000 and walking on water.
In this week's study, we see the Pharisees question Jesus about his disciples, not "ceremonially" washing their hands. We see Jesus confronted by a Caananite woman wanting healing for her daughter and we see Jesus feed a group of 4,000 gentiles (estimated 10,000 or more in total). The theme that we hit on, and that Dave argues is the key thing Christ is looking for; "where is your heart at?"
In this week's study, we cover all of chapter 16 and the first 13 verses of 17. We see Jesus tempted yet again by the Pharisees and we see the magnificent transfiguration of Christ on Mt Hermon. In the midst of these verses though we see the true humanity of the disciples; these guys are normal everyday people and that comes through this week in the highs and lows of Peter.
In this week's study, we start out with Jesus' transfiguration on the top of Mount Hermon with Peter, James and John. We then look at Jesus healing a "moonstruck" kid and conclude with Jesus yet again prophesying his coming crucifixion and resurrection.
In this week's study of Matthew 18, we see Jesus talk about what it means to have a child-like faith.
In this week's bible study Dave looks at what the bible has to say about marriage. Dave pulls no punches in conveying the high calling that Jesus puts on both men and women in their roles as husbands and wives.
This week we look at the rest of Matthew 19 and all of chapter 20 (Mat 19;13-20;34). Throughout all of 19 and 20 we see Jesus hitting on this theme found in Matt. 19;30, "but many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first. This week Dave breaks down 8 different segments across these two chapters, focusing on what Jesus meant by Matt. 19;30.
In this weeks study we look at all of Matthew 21: - Jesus' Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) - Jesus clears out the temple courts of greed - The Cursing of the Fig Tree - The Parable of the Two Sons & The Tenants
In this week's Bible Study of Matthew Chapter 22 we see Jesus continue his teachings in the temple courts with the Parable of the Wedding Banquet. Jesus is questioned by the Pharisees, the Herodians as well as the Sadducees but in classic fashion, Jesus avoids their false dilemmas and teaches with simple truths.
In this week's study, we look at Jesus' last public sermon, in which Jesus has some very harsh words for the religious leaders. We see Jesus warn the Pharisees against hypocrisy and unleash eight "woes" on them.
In this week's (and next week’s) study Dave does a surface-level overview of the end times. This week covering Matthew 24:1-35 in which Jesus first describes the “signs of the times” for the world, then specifically for the Jews. In next week's study Dave will look at the rest of Matthew 24 and what we as believers are called to do, knowing that we are living in the end times.
In this week’s study of Matthew 24 we see part two of Dave’s two part series on the Biblical view of the end of the world AKA: the study of eschatology. Dave starts out with a recap of Matthew 24:1-35 looking at the “signs of the times” as detailed by Jesus, then looks at the Antichrist (aka The Beast, the Man of Lawlessness), the new temple in Jerusalem and the Abomination of Desolation. Then Dave hits the rest of Matthew 24 including an overview of the rest of the prophetic timeline including, the Rapture, the Mark of the Beast, the Great Tribulation, the binding of Satan, the millennial kingdom and finally heaven!
In this week’s study Jesus answers the question; what now shall we do? In light of knowing we are living in the last days (as discussed by Dave over the last two weeks of study on Matthew 24) what are we called to do? We look at three parables that all point to us being ready and waiting for the Lord’s return while being busy about doing the Lord’s work.
In this week's study we see: 1) Jesus predict his death a 4th time in the gospel. 2) Jesus anointed with extremely expensive perfume. 3) Judas agree to betray Jesus to the Sanhedrin.
In this week's Bible Study, we look at the Last Supper in which Jesus explains communion; a symbolic practice that Christians are called to do on a regular basis in remembrance of Christ and the sacrifice he made to bring about the New Covenant. Dave explains the foundation of the Old Covenant and the undertone of prophecy throughout the Old Testament pointing to a coming Messiah and a New Covenant that God himself would bring about for his people.
In this week's study, we look at the scene in the garden of Gethsemane in which Jesus is burdened with the coming hours and the “cup” he chooses to bear. Dave also talks about Peter, his denial, and reinstatement.
In this week's study, Dave walks us through Matthew 26:57 - 27:66. The "trial" of Jesus before Ciaphas and the Sanhedrin, Jesus' trial before the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate; Jesus' flogging, Jesus' crucifixion, death, and burial.
What is the resurrection of Jesus and why does it matter? Why do Christians make such a big deal about Easter? Why do Christians say, "He is Risen?" In this week's Bible Study Dave wraps up the book of Matthew culminating with chapter 28 and the resurrection of Jesus Christ!
